Blackburn Bits #8 – A Life Of Depth | #Life #Quotes #Emerson #Writing

“Identify what stops you from being your ideal version of yourself.  This is a core part of personal growth work.”
– Dr. Zwig

At my current personal juncture, I’m goinge through a serious recalibrating of many habits that do not allow me the growth that I’ve been seeking for quite some time.  In the past, I’ve been at various points where I was satisfied with my own personal steps that sought growth in various directions, but of late, I wasn’t accomplishing as much as I would have liked to in life because I steered away from the proactive steps I was taking previously, but wasn’t taking of late.

To solve those glaring oversights, I needed to handle my main problem, which was the amount of time I spent on social media. I wrote about it in the past, but as a quick synopsis, on average I spent well over 100 hours of a month, nigh every single month last year wasting time on social media.  That seems outlandish, except some people spend a few multiples of that when it comes down to it.  It’s actually a much more serious issue than it seems at first blush, but I won’t delve into that now.  The point is that if I was going to get to the self-reinforcing positive habits that I love doing, which are writing poetry and blogs, and conducting reading while also doing research, I needed to quite overlooking main and most obvious vacuum of time, which was social media.

Sometimes readjusting your time is easy, and sometimes is hard, as social media can be highly addictive, as psychologist Stephanie Brown PhD discuses in her book, Speed – Facing Our Addiction To Fast & Faster – And Overcoming Our Fear Of Slowing Down.  Either way, easy or not, it needed to be done.

There are other bad habits that I also have and I’m working on overcoming, such as not being mindful about what I eat and so on, but the largest one that affected me the most is social media by far.  And while I still plan on using social media as needed, I’m going to be mindful about it and efficient as well.  But creating a positive habit is one thing, keeping those habits is the hard part.  This is why I need to be mindful about it as I continue to move forward given the goals that I have this year, be them personal, business, writing, and so on.

As I do that, I’ll be able to follow the steps that I’m going to take and was taking in the past, thus bit by bit, continue to achieve the goals that I set for myself. I know many of the goals will not be easy, particularly with writing and so on, but obstacles are something that allows for growth and are part of life, so I shall learn from them every step of the way.

And I hope that in whatever goals each of you are undertaking at the moment, you all seek to take a really proactive approach to achieving those dreams as well.

Personal Note:

I’m going to be doing a larger Blog Update soon. I’m in the process of getting another admin or two of my Facebook pages, since I’m also using my old one again, that couples into another Blog I’m also going to be writing on as well, so I will be quite busy. Finally, I know the mailing list has grown overtime even though I’ve neglected this blog quite a bit, but I really want to thank those of you who have stuck around and continued to support the blog when possible. I You all have a stellar evening.

Book Release! Amor Vincit Omnia – Love Conquers All Is Out Now! | #Poetry #Prose #Love #Books #LoveConquersAll #Amor VincitOmnia

As a preface, the above book that has just been released, Amor Vincit Omnia – Love Conquers All, has been released under my other pen name, Zy Marquiez. I know this might spur some confusion, but I lead off with that fact so individuals realize that I am one and the same, Noctis Blackburn and Zy Marquiez. As I continue to release books, the deliberate dichotomy will be incredibly significant, but that will be touched upon in the future.

With that out of the way, Amor Vincit Omnia means a lot to me for myriad reasons, much more than I could probably ever convey in words.  The fact that this book begins with an 11 page introduction shows how serious this book is to me, and how much I wanted to set a proper foundation for the argument that Love does in fact conquer all.

Moreover, the fact that this book is triple the size than my previous book Halcyon Days (word–count wise), also shows the significant extent I was willing to go to in order to extend the argument of Lover Conquering All as precise as possible under the intricate circumstances of such a broad topic.  This isn’t filler content at all however.  Not even close.  The book features dozens of notations, not unlike most of my previous books, examining various different circumstances of how Love does in fact hold the power to change society through all strata, and not simply from a romantic point of view.

Yes, many of the poems in the book are written from a couple’s point of view, or a romantic point of view, but the poems are often metaphors operating on multiples tiers, not unlike life operates physically and metaphysically simultaneously, and those metaphors are extrapolated upon in the notations with key poems in mind, and crucial concepts in mind like kindness, goodness, appreciation, and so on.

Now, at its core, the book features two different arguments of how Love Conquers All.  The first argument is the one that is covered through most of the book given its complexity, which is explained in the introduction.  The second argument is simple, very simple.  I happen to believe both are true.  That said, what I myself believe is irrelevant, as I make it a point to explain in the book, I share these thoughts for consideration purposes only, examining of how Love could hypothetically not only “conquer all”, but could also create resounding change in the world.

Of course, the book is written with a very broad point of view in mind, sampling many subjective and objective points as well.  The point is life, Love, and the paths that each individual take, happen in so many complex ways, to try and explain away such a concept and emotion as Love in a “one–size–fits–all” type of way would be very ignorant, or perhaps, shortsighted.  Life is, and always will be much more complicated than that, particularly when emotions are involved.  Even so, I do think the topic of Love isn’t explored with as much depth and care as it should be, which is one of the vanguard reasons why I chose to write this book.

Ultimately, what you believe about Love is your business, and you have every right to believe what you do because the life that you live is yours and yours alone, and the path that you are on is yours alone as well.  I simply hope that this book offers something of substance that will help you consider not only Life and Love in a kaleidoscope of circumstances and how those ultimately help you grow as a person, but also how Love can help create that type of resonance that in fact does ultimately help change the world.

Amor Vincit Omnia – Love Conquers All Book Release Update | #Love #Poetry #Prose #WritingCommunity

Just recently, I received my proof copy for the latest book I am soon to release, though admittedly under my Zy Marquiez pen name, it being Amor Vincit Omnia – Love Conquers All.

The above picture shows what the softcover book looks like. A quick note on that though, that ‘smudgy’ looking portion on the left of the white heart is just a glare. That said, the pinkish hearts that interlock do however look exactly as you see them. Just wanted to make sure people knew how it looked.

Now, the tentative plan is for me to start proof reading this copy today, and hopefully have the proof reading and additional Beta Feedback done so I can order another proof copy tomorrow, which should arrive mid next week. Given how important this book is to me, I simply don’t want to make this book available to public access without having had another go at the ‘final’ proof copy.

If all goes as planned, then the book should be available to the public by late next week.

You all have a great day.

Blackburn Musings #4 – Always Listen To Your Mom | #Mom #Family #Life #WritingCommunity #Prose #Poetry

You know, someone once told me “Always listen to your Mom, because one day you won’t be able too.” That hit me hard. I’ll always remember that piece of advice, well over 20 years ago.

Today, when I was helping her with something, she was venting about a random issue that I often try and urge her not to stress about given that its really not that important since she stresses herself out considerably, and I was going to tell her just to take it easy for a moment, but I didn’t. I just listened to her talk for the next 30 minutes because I knew that one day eventually she wouldn’t be talking to me anymore, and that just shattered me to pieces.

Thankfully she couldn’t tell because I’ve learn how to wear a mask so long that she can’t even tell the difference, plus the last thing I want her to do is worry about me when I’m just thinking about her and how much I’m going to miss her one day.
